Yovember - Day 22/30

Photo: summer heat cooling feet by mon of the loin

Summer is seriously just around the corner now and today hit 41℃ (105.8℉), yikes! I love a BBQ and this summer I want to clear out the backyard and buy a wading pool. A barbie (vegie style thanks), lots of beer and a pool. Can't think of anything more relaxing while hanging out with friends in the summertime. Unfortunately, this also marks the bushfire season. A shout out to all the firefighters and volunteers helping fight the fires today, you guys are so amazingly brave - thank you.

This morning's practice was good but now I'm in a bit of pain - not the teacher's fault! It's always a little more challenging practicing in the heat, and Sydney gets very humid, but the practice is modified to suit. I kept forgetting to breathe and I was slack in my alignment. Really slack because I know myself to get lazy in the heat. I also tried to push myself too far in my forward bends, twists and reclining hero pose. The pain is centred directly below my ribcage. It's happened before when I push myself too far but it usually goes away overnight. It's just a bitch right now and will be when I try to go to sleep. I really hate taking medication but I have to for the muscle ache or it's very uncomfortable. Live and learn.

It is cold and grey and windy and raining here. I am jealous of your approaching summer!

Wish I could pop round for another beer-filled barbecue, along the lines of what we got up to 3 years ago! (3 years?!) Speaking of beer, have you tried James Squire Golden Ale?! That goes down a treat!!

Have been really inspired by your daily practice and have been working with Shiva Rea's "Fluid Power" DVD, and think I may have finally mastered a smooth transition from chauturanga to upward dog! At last!!! xx

Almost 3 years ago ;). Beer and barbecues are my favourite parts of summer.I'm going to buy a wading pool too, and although I will say it's for P, I'll definitely be jumping in it too!

Hope the muscle ache clears soon

I found you through Rachel's blog! :)

I haven't tried Jivamukti yoga yet... I'm a little nervous honestly and have no idea why....

Also, I'm a little jealous of your summer- but then that heat would make me a bit cranky lol.

Can't wait to read more! (and hope you are feeling better, I can totally understand pain from yoga- I'm not super bendy!)

Rachel - I hear you! I was jealous when it was the other way around LOL.

Phil - we'll be BBQing again, don't you worry about that. Go you with the chaturanga to upward dog!! I'm still modifying but finally making progress as well.

SC - too funny, at least you have a really good excuse to get one. I'm trying to justify the cost. There are some really fancy ones out there and of course I am looking at those but really, we just need a big bucket, right? ;-)

EY - hey! Welcome and thanks for your comment. Jivamukti gets some interesting reactions. I really like the Jivamukti style. As with any yoga style/school of thought, you're going to agree with the dogma or not and you have teachers that you'll really gel with and those you won't. I reckon give it a go and see if you like it. I really dig the chanting/music/philosophical aspect and there seems to be more joy in a room full of Jiva peeps, from my own experience. I look forward to checking out your blog!!
